Detailed Itinerary

Your Lakeland Scenic Holidays guide meets you at the airport or your hotel, with breakfast to follow. You will be introduced to your guide and given a full briefing regarding your safari programme. Once these final details are settled you begin your journey from Nairobi to Mount Kenya National Park. Today the safari route runs via the rich farmland of the Kikuyu community, and we stop to visit Karatina market, the largest fresh food market in East Africa. Afternoon relaxation or wildlife viewing from the balconies of the lodge. Overnight at Mountain Lodge or similar.

After breakfast proceed to Samburu Game Reserve. The easy scenic drive runs via the Kenya highlands and the semi arid frontier district, and along the way you experience four climatic zones. Afternoon game viewing drives along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

A full day is spent in Samburu Game Reserve with unlimited game viewing drives along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Picnic lunches are provided while in the park. Samburu holds many species, among them lion, Grevy’s zebra, cheetah, buffalo, elephant, oryx, reticulated giraffe and Somali ostrich. Later in the evening return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast depart Samburu for Lake Nakuru, arriving in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive with plenty of bird species and chances to see the big five. Dinner and overnight at a lodge.

Lake Nakuru National Park was the first national park in Africa set aside primarily for the conservation of birdlife, and the site of Kenya’s first rhino sanctuary. It is famous worldwide for its great flocks of pink flamingo and for some 400 species of birds. The lake, on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, is fed by three seasonal rivers, the Njoro, the Makalia and the Enderit, but has no outlet.

Depart Nakuru after breakfast for the Maasai Mara, arriving in time for lunch. Check in at the campsite or lodge and relax over coffee or tea, followed by a late afternoon game drive. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast leave the lodge with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. Search for the different species in this reserve up to the Mara River, where crocodiles and hippopotamus are seen. Break for your picnic lunch and continue the game drive until 1700hrs, returning to the lodge, with an optional visit to the Maasai village at an extra cost.

The Mara offers wildlife in remarkable variety and abundance, with over 450 species recorded. Lion, rhino, hippo, crocodile, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, warthog, hyena, jackal, wild dog, leopard, many kinds of antelope and elephant are all seen here. It is in the Mara that the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra arrives from the Serengeti in search of water and pasture, followed closely by the predators of the savannah.

This morning includes a stop at a Maasai village before the drive continues to Lake Naivasha, with lunch along the way. You’ll arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

After breakfast visit Hell’s Gate National Park for a game drive, afterwards proceeding to Amboseli via Nairobi with lunch on the way. Amboseli is famous for its unforgettable views of Kilimanjaro, a relaxed and abundant population of elephants, and prolific birdlife. All meals and overnight at the lodge.

A day of game drives in this park, which contains swamp grounds where elephants and hippos bathe in abundance. A variety of plains game, antelopes and birds can also be seen, and Mount Kilimanjaro’s peak too if weather conditions permit. We cater for picnic lunches, then an afternoon game drive follows until 1700hrs before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Rise early for a final game drive, then return to the lodge for breakfast before the drive back to Nairobi via Namanga. Options include a stop at Emali to connect with the Mombasa train, or continuing on to Nairobi for drop-off at the airport or your hotel.
